First, let me thank all the people who helped me put the rally together. Big thanks to Co-Chairman Dave Trezza who cold ran the rally after I wrote it and ran it about a dozen times enhancing the instructions each time, helped write a few instructions I wanted better verbiage than what I had for the instructions. Putting up the signs Saturday morning and taking down the signs on Sunday morning as I drove around. Dave also did the Rally Results for me/us. Thanks to Diane Mays and Mike Carroll for doing the rally registration. Huge thanks to Barbara Gebala for designing another spectacular Halloween dash plaque for us and Jesse Lipscher for ordering them for us. Thanks to Jesse for promoting the event on-line for us as there were a number of new teams entered and encourage them to come back for the Turkey Tour which is the oldest consecutively held rally in the United States, on 11/23. Same place in Mount Kisco. Same time – Registration 5 – 6:30pm. First car off 7pm.
I would like to apologize to the competitors for a couple errors we made that caused problems. I write rallies by designing a route using the Hagstrom's Map books and then verifying the route with software to verify the length of the rally. I probably ran this rally route around ten to twelve times improving instructions each time. Unfortunately, during my last revision, I somehow changed the "Right AFTER 3rd Hidden" of instruction 24 to "Right AT 3rd Hidden" This should not have been a problem because we use the instructions we are going to hand out to the competitors that night to get us around the course to put up the rally signs as a way of picking up any last minute errors we had not picked up. Unfortunately, while we navigated the course, Dave misread instruction 24 telling me "After the 3rd Hidden" instead of the written "At the 3rd Hidden" and the mistake was not caught, which caused people to be driving around trying to figure out the instruction, which did not work as it was written. We apologize! We want all you people to return for the Turkey Tour and have fun with all of us.
There were 48 signs put up, but only 46 of them were seen, so the official sign total is 46 in case the two that were not seen were too difficult to be seen. The most signs were seen by the father – son team of Stefan and Tyler Heinz. They saw 44 of them. Barbara and Jesse followed closely seeing 42 signs with Diane and Mike seeing 41 signs. Leading the pack with the best mileage were members Barbara and Jesse. The best time was posted WSCC members Don Mays and Mark Connelly with Barbara and Jesse running a close second.
Winning the 2024 Halloween Rally was the WSCC team of Jesse Lipscher and Barbara Gebala.
Second place went to the WSCC team of Don Mays and Mark Connelly. Third place was earned by the 2023 WSCC Rally Champions Dani Jackson and Christine Klein.
Having won the WSCC Bunny Run earlier this year and the Halloween Rally makes Barbara and Jesse the winners of the 2024 WSCC Rally Award for the year before the rally season is even completed as there is no team that can catch them now!
So the rest of us will be competing for second place for the Annual Rally Points for 2024 when we compete at the Annual Turkey Tour on Noember 23.
It was great hearing somebody say they remember when we used to start the rally at the Kensico Dam years ago. And another team remembering starting at the back of the Elmsford Bowling Alley decades ago. I know there were a few houses decorated quite nicely along the way for Halloween for everyone to enjoy.
We look forward to seeing you all at the Annual Turkey Tour on November 23. Bring your friends! See you then!
